Animal Abuse

This story is sad but could end well with your help

Dear Friends,
I know there are a lot of sad stories involving animals out there but this one is particularly barbaric and we need your help to get justice for Haunna and make sure that the person who perpetrated this crime does not do it again.

Here’s the background
Haunna was surrendered to the Animal Control facility in Reidsville, Georgia (about 75 miles southwest of Savannah - in Tattnall County) with orders to euthanize her. At the time of her surrender she was in terrible condition. Haunna is a four year old German Shepherd but weighed only 41 pounds. Also upon surrender she was pregnant and gave birth to three stillborn puppies. Her pads were so wounded that she walked on her haunches and her fur was rubbed off in many places due to confinement. Haunna was clearly the victim of greedy and illegal breeding practices. Her picture is attached to this email.

Southern Cross German Shepherd Rescue pulled Haunna from the Animal Control Facility as soon as they found out about this very sad soul. She is currently in their care recovering. She has gained a few pounds but has a very long road to recovery.

Perhaps the most unbelievable twist in Haunna’s sad life is that the person who is responsible for her abuse is a K9 handler for the local sheriff's department in Tattnal County and they will not release his name to animal advocates who would like to seek charges of animal abuse. Even worse, there is reason to believe that Haunna’s abuser has recently acquired a new breeder female.

What Haunna (and the poor soul who has replaced her) needs is publicity and a public outcry from around the country that will force the Tattnal County officials to surrender her abuser and allow justice to take place. If we can succeed in at least raising public awareness, this will send a strong message to other would-be animal breeders and abusers that there is a strong, committed, large and growing group of animal advocates who will not tolerate this!

Here’s what we can do:
1. If you have media contacts please forward this email to them and ask that they get in touch with Southern Cross GSD Rescue for details. Southern Cross can be reached at: 706-754-6777 or SouthernCrossGSDRescue@gmail.com

2. Please send respectful e-mails and letters to the authorities listed below. A sample letter is provided at the end of this email.

Sample Letter---------------------------

Dear Senator Isakson, Mr. Murphy, MS. Hussey, Mr. Rush and Ms. Sharpe

I recently learned about the surrender of a German Shepherd to the Reidsville Animal Control facility that was so starved and abused she could barely stand and could only walk on her haunches. Her sad picture is attached.

It has also come to my attention that the person(s) responsible for her abuse may be associated with the Tattnal County K9 Unit and that this department is not being forthcoming with animal advocates who wish to pursue animal abuse charges against the offender.

I urge you to please investigate this matter with the utmost sincerity until the person(s) responsible are found and brought to justice. There is a large, strong and growing animal advocacy community who are now aware of this egregious abuse and it is likely this situation will spark a public outcry until justice for this innocent dog has been achieved. One only has to remember the publicity and uproar surrounding the case of Michael Vick to understand how near and dear this matter is to the American people.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this very critical matter.

Sincerely,
